It still baffles my mind that the backlash of the last few years with attacks on education, history, diversity, equity, inclusion, wokeness, book bans, school board fascists, is not framed that it is backlash, in direct correlation to the Floyd protest and how popular they were for awhile. Right after they died down, the critical race theory panic and 'learning black history will hurt our children's feelings' attacks in forms of bills was like that September. I wrote about it in a paper for school.
I get the massive dispiritedness and disenchantment of what wasn't, but I don't get the memory holing of it literally was in all fifty states and international. I don't understand why you would let the right wing and nazis fill that fucking hole of the narrative. People act like it never happened! It's so....it just really saddens me and you let this disingenuous assholes, propagandists and regular fools act like this was a liberal Jan. 6th or some bullshit. I hope people are taking notes, future historians who haven't finished their writings and archiving, d.i.y documentations and reporting. More important than ever. The fascists are coming for that. Whitewashing and erasing the past. Hijacking government and media. Demanding control of the culture and the blood thirst lock step to rewrite the future.
I think one of the biggest missteps and overplayed hand of the far right in this moment is that they think they are going to own and shape American entertainment culture. Like even when there has been conservative presidential control in American government...well you can look up history of pop culture and counterculture of those periods and see how that's gone. The conservatives haven't had that kind of control over American entertainment since before Elvis. There are these media narratives from mainstream, independent and also commentary from the average person passed around on social media that the youth are hoards of nazis and tradwives, yet when you look on polling on the issues it's pretty different picture. Not saying their isn't issue or reality Trump capturing people who are young and disillusioned with little politics before (not to mention young right drifting in other parts of the world) and yet he's polling badly with them despite being told of some grand realignment? When you look at the polls and numbers Gen X are the boomers not Gen Z.
Just some trail crumbs of thoughts to take into account before we let one or two narratives overtake us.
